Cappadocia
Cappadocia is the place where mother nature and the
human civilization are in an unending competition to reshape and
re-beautify the landscape...
While geographic events are forming Peri bacalari (fairy
chimneys), during the historical period, humans had carried the
signs of thousand years old civilizations with carving houses and
churches within these earth pillars and decorating them with frisks.
The adventure began with the first Christians seeking refuge to
survive with their own faith and then the Moslem Turks - Seljuks -
beat the Byzantine Empire to create a wider understanding and
comfort. Later the inhabitants from all faiths selected to live
together with their cities and legends in the rocks.
Traditional Cappadocian houses and dovecotes carved into stones
are showing the uniqueness of the region. These houses are
constructed on the feet of the mountain via rocks or cut stones.
